License Management Help
The online license management system allows you to track and manage your licenses
for Arcana Development products (see the overview for
more information).
Getting Started
After you log in to your account, the Products list shows you all
of the products that you have licenses for. Next to each product in the list is
a Select Action... link. Place your cursor over this link to display
a menu of the available actions for each product.
How Do I...
"Activate" Your Software
Our products do not allow you to type a license number in directly. Instead you
must activate the software using an Internet connection or a downloaded license
file. Specific instructions are available for these products:
Deactivate (Remove) a License
If you are no longer using the software on a computer, you can deactivate that computer
and return the license to your account so it can be used on another computer.
- For adTempus or Report Commander: You can return the license before
you uninstall the software by running the License Manager program from the product's
group on the Start menu. In the License Manager, select the license, then choose
Return License from the License menu.
If you do not return the license before you uninstall, the uninstall program will
ask you if you want to return your license.
You can also return the license through this Web site, as described in the next
paragraph. This may be necessary if you have already removed the software from the
old computer, or if the computer is no longer accessible.
- For all products: You can return the license here in the online
license management system:
- In the Products list on the main account page, locate the product.
- On the Select Action menu for the product, select List/Manage
Licenses.
- On the Issued Licenses page, locate the license you want to return,
based on the license number or host information.
- Select the Return license to account command on the Select
Action menu for that license, then follow the online instructions.
Move a License
If you are moving the software from one computer to another, you must transfer the
license as well. To do this, return the license from the
old computer and then activate the software on the new computer.
If you need to keep both computers running at the same time for a short time, you
can get a temporary license for the new computer until
you are ready to complete the transfer.
Get a Temporary License
A temporary license can be used to operate the software for a short time. Use the
Get a Temporary License link on the left navigation menu to get
a temporary license. Alternatively, for adTempus and Report Commander you can do
this from within the product's License Manager (a program installed with the software):
select Get Temporary License from the License
menu.
In either case, temporary licenses are valid for 30 days from the date of issue,
and you are allowed only 3 temporary licenses per computer.
Upgrade Software
When you purchase a license upgrade, we remove the license from the old product
in your account and add it to the new product. For example, if you upgrade one adTempus
2.0 license to adTempus 3.0, we subtract one adTempus 2.0 license from your account
and add an adTempus 3.0 license.
As a result of this, your account may show a negative available count for the product(s)
you have upgraded, because you have more licenses "activated" than are in your account.
When you are ready to upgrade the software, you return
the license from the old product to your account, then activate
the software using the new license.
What if you're not ready to upgrade the software to the new version, but need to
transfer the old license to a new computer?
When you return the old license, you won't be able to reissue it to a new computer,
because the license has been upgraded. For example, your Licenses Available for
adTempus 2.0 was -1. You returned the issued license, and now your Licenses Available
is 0. Since there are no licenses available for adTempus 2.0, you cannot activate
the software using an adTempus 2.0 license. Instead, you can activate the software
using the adTempus 3.0 license, because all licenses are backward-compatible (the
license for one version of the software will work with all earlier versions).
